Gunpowder is a green tea product created by Shaoxing. It is kneaded into a leaf pill, which is round and firm, with a sound of falling cup, green color and rich fragrance. It is known as "green pearl". Kangxi tribute in the early Qing Dynasty, named "Gongxi" tea, and later sold abroad, once popular in Europe and America. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the quality of gunpowder tea was emphasized and the traditional craftsmanship was improved. In 1984, at the 23rd World Quality Food Selection Conference held in Madrid, Spain, the Tiantan Brand 3505 Premium Pearl Tea won the Gold Award.
In 1986, gunpowder was awarded the Gold Medal of the International Gastronomy and Tourism Society of Paris, France.
In 1999, at the China Agricultural Expo, Sanjie Ping Gunpowder Tea (produced in Zhejiang Province) was recognized as a Chinese famous brand product. The World Quality Food Selection Conference is hosted by the International Quality Product Selection Association. The association is composed of some prestigious individuals from 10 European and American countries including the United States, Britain, France and Belgium. The selection activity began in 1961, and then held once a year in European countries.
