Gunpowder is mainly produced in Shaoxing, Yuyao, Shengzhou, Xinchang, Yinzhou, Shangyu, Fenghua, Dongyang and other counties. Our company is located in Shengzhou City, which is the most famous place for gunpowder producing.
One essential process to make gunpowder is “Killing Green”. It emits moisture and grassy gas and promotes the formation of inclusions. After this step, the water content is reduced, and the tea becomes soft, which is easy to twist and shape.
Twist is the following step. The machinery and methods used for gunpowder tea twisting are basically the same as chunmee tea. The difference is that the time for gunpowder to twist is slightly shorter than that for chunmee tea, and the pressure is lighter than chunmee tea. Generally, the fresher leaves are rubbed for about 10 to 15 minutes, and the older leaves are 15 to 20 minutes. The degree of twisting is such that the cell destruction rate is 45% to 60%, the tender leaf formation rate is about 90%, and the 4 to 5 grade formation rate is about 85%. If the kneading time is too short, the strip forming rate is poor, which is not conducive to frying into the shape of gunpowder tea particles. The twisted leaves should be properly deblocked and dried in time to prevent the leaves from getting yellowish.
